Abstract:
Teriitutea Quesnot gets to the heart of the field by proposing a renewed conceptualization of geospatial data types that is more in line with the current conditions of their production on the web, where social networks now take the lion’s share. To the classic distinction between “data” – data digitized from the physical environment – and “capta” – data captured by web platforms, often without their users’ knowledge – he adds a third category, “quaesita”, whose purpose is to use algorithms to influence individuals’ spatial behavior. He then revisits the question of geospatial data through the concepts of Human-trace, trace-signs, geospatial traces, footprints and algorithmic spatiality. For him, the new techniques of augmented, diminished and mixed reality aim to superimpose these algorithmically calculated “quaesita”onto individuals’ perceptions in situ to influence their decisions.
